Rainder Steenblock
Rainder Steenblock was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment in Schleswig-Holstein from 1996 to 2000 and a Member of the German Bundestag from 1994 to 2009, where his portfolio included EU Accession and European Neighbourhood Policy. He extensively monitored and reported on the negotiations with new EU membership candidates and supported the creation of democratic, transparent and efficient governance structures. His second focus of activities is sustainable and efficient energy policies. Rainder has first-hand experience in profiling and administratively leading a Ministry, and extensive political contacts in Central and Eastern Europe. A psychologist by education, he has also worked as a teacher and trainer in vocational adult education.
